1. While staying in a vacation rental from House Of Dreams Kauai, take the time to explore The Kalalau Trail, the premier adventure in all of Hawaii.

  1. For those who want a day trip you can hike to Hanakapi’ai Beach and the falls. It’s a bit more than 2 miles to the beach and another 2 more to the falls. Depending on the weather the trail can be difficult and muddy. The trail inland to the falls is flatter and tends to be wet, but for those who can handle it, it is worth the effort. Remember to bring lots of water and food. Figure an hour for each mile. This will allow you to stop, relax, enjoy the beach and take in the amazing views. A swim under the cool waterfall is a refreshing way to energize yourself for the hike back.

  1. If you wish to start early and are doing this hike purely for sport, you can average 20 to 30 minutes per mile.

  1. Due to the overwhelming popularity of Kauai, this hike can be very crowded. I remember years ago, we would only pass a handful of people along the way to Hanakapi’ai Beach. Now a days, there seems to be 100’s of folks on the trails throughout the day. Because of this, we recommend starting very early in the morning to avoid crowds and also to find parking by Ke’e Beach.

  1. A nice day is to hike the falls and back, have a cooler of food waiting in your car, and then enjoy a relaxing dinner, snorkeling and sunset at picturesque Ke’e Beach.
